Costa Rica Tour Diary / 21.May
Today
was what I always pictured Costa Rice to be like. We got up and had a great
buffet breakfast with
amazing CR Coffee (YUM!!) and were wisked off for our nature hike. We expected an hour or 2 leisurely hike
through the jungle, but were we wrong (again)! We drove about an hour and a half North of our hotel, past
Lake Arenal, over dirt roads and into the jungle. It was a crazy drive but the area we passed was gorgeous,
and included pineapple fields and a lot non-tourist areas. We seriously hiked 4 hours total but saw wildlife,
waterfalls, and heated pools. At the end we got a traditional lunch or rice, beans and meat. Our guides –
Angelo and Mondo were awesome, entertaining and all-around nice guys. They made it the best possible
adventure ever!

Waking
up to Tasia’s actual 30th birthday, we started the 2nd
part of our trip today, traveling Southwest towards
the coast, Quepos and Manuel Antonio. The drive was filled with more small winding roads and bad drivers
but I felt I was getting the hang of driving CR style. The rolling green hills, with interspersed jungle was
absolutely stunning. Upon reaching the coast, we saw the breathtaking view and were in complete awe.

We
stopped along the drive at a roadside place called a “Soda” for lunch and beer.
High above in a tree,
a mated pair of adult Toucans were engaged in loud cries (of passion we think).

Our
hotel, Hotel Byblos was set high above the water, set into the hills but only a
5 minute drive to the beach.
The jungle cradled the hotel and cut a swath through the pool area. The hotel also had a small casino (lame)
and sports bar (meh).

We got
down to the beach as quickly as possible to enjoy the afternoon sun, the warm
ocean water and a beer
(in a bottle) along the beach. That night we dined at the highly recommended Agua Azul for Tasia's birthday
dinner. The food was excellent and I let the hostess know of T’s birthday so there was a rousing sing along of
Feliz Cumpleanos!!! Throw in a bunch of drinks and the evening (and birthday overall) was excellent!
