Revolution not Resolution

F@#K!!!! I can’t believe that 2006 is over. Where did the year go!!!
Yesterday was just going to the driving range with Jimmy & Chuckles,
gaming with the boys, FriarFest at Petco, my time at Van Vechten,
meeting new women outside of tanning salons, the Y conference, meeting
new women at pilates class, my time at Sony Online, OBEY events, seeing
the Foo Fighters twice, Del Mar Race Track, baseball playoffs
(damn Padres), EPIC Halloween party, Culture & Cocktails, watching
the Chargers win, Drunkapalooza-2006, and so much more. Great shows,
movies & tv.

Personally - All is great. I have been hanging out with SD for 2 months
and she is really great. We have a ton in common from pop culture,
art & music to design and our way of thinking.

Professionally – I have been busy marketing myself and looking
for more (& more) clients.I got my new business cards in and they
look great!! Still hoping that word of mouth from my friends and
associates will drum up even more business. [If you know ANYONE
that is starting a new business, revamping their existing business or
have ever said “ My business is slow”, be sure to drop my name & website
visualHYPE (point out that it has my e-mail address). Tell them I do marketing,
design – print & web, and advertising. I thank you in advance.]
.

For 2007 I have decided not to make Resolutions and Goals but instead to
turn it upside down and do all the things I never have time to do,
or keep putting off – like this year’s resolutions. To make a difference
in not only my life, but others as well.

Revolt against the norm. Stand up to mediocrity. Bend the rules.

Join the Revolution.

The Beautiful People

High School seems so far away... Well, I guess it is since I am
an "Old Man" now. But thanks to my profession, it keeps me in the
loop on the popular music, art, fads, and a young lifestyle.

BUT... to reminisce about the past. It's fun and brings up stories
we all love to tell and hear and share. To be able to look at the
20 year old photos or talk to the kids leaving HS and say "I remember
when..." is actually kind of fun.

I hope by the end of my life, I will have many MORE experiences, stories
and pictures to share.

Life is but a journey. Death is but another experience.

Rearviewmirror

Crisp winter mornings. The smell of burning fireplaces.
Watching football curled on the couch. Rain (finally).
Flooded streets and gutters. Accidents. Bad Drivers.
Braving the mall. Packed parking lots. Parties, parties,
parties. The sound of children on vacation.
Thinking of past holidays. Appreciating what you have.
Working to move forward in your goals. Making plans for
your holiday (Xmas, Hannukah, Kwanza, etc.). Asking “What
are you doing for New Years?”. Christmas music.
Missing friends and loved ones, far away.

Just thinking of the good times.

Always remembering the past.

But looking towards the future.

Just spread the legs open and stuff it in...

During Thanksgiving, when taken out of context the following sound offensive:
1. Talk about a huge breast!
2. Tying the legs together keeps the inside moist.
3. It’s Cool Whip time!
4. If I don’t undo my pants, I’ll burst!
5. Whew, that was one terrific spread!
6. I’m in the mood for a little dark meat.
7. Are you ready for seconds yet?
8. It’s a little dry, do you still want to eat it?
9. Just wait your turn, you’ll get some!
10. Don’t play with your meat.
11. Just spread the legs open and stuff it in.
12. Do you think you’ll be able to handle all these people at once?
13. I didn’t expect everyone to come at once!
14. You still have a little bit on your chin.
15. How long will it take after you stick it in?
16. You’ll know it’s ready when it pops up.
17. Wow, I didn’t think I could handle all of that!
18. That’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen!
19. How long do I beat it before it’s ready?

Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground

UUUUUGH!!! I hate being sick. Being sick to me is a BIG waste of time.
I don’t like laying around doing nothing. I am always doing something –
as simple as side work, surfing the web, updating my Blog or MySpace page,
reading comics (or updating the database), uploading photos to the Flickr account,
or even cleaning the apartment. Sure, there may be some times of laying around
watching some shows I DVR’ed, but not all day on the couch watching the boob-tube.

Yesterday’s weather made me appreciate the coming of winter and missing
those dreary, rainy days that are foreign to San Diego. I like a change
in weather. Being a native I am sure others of the native variety not to
understand but I like a change of seasons. Sure I never had to dig my car
out of a snow bank or hide in a storm cellar while a tornado rips overhead,
but I can enjoy those things from afar or at least visit places without
having to live there.

As far as my “real life”… well, change is good, right? In the midst of
that and as usual, when one shitty thing happens it is followed by a
plethora of good in other areas of your life. Just don’t give up on finding
something good. It will come to you when you least expect it.

Of course I talk about the opposite sex. Women. Love them. Hate them.
They aren’t leaving anytime soon and I don’t want them to anyways.
I am idealistic. I know I will fall in love again.

Creative. Smart. Good Looking. Caring. They are out there. You are not
going to find them sitting behind a computer monitor, complaining about it,
or with a bong in your mouth while sitting on the couch.
Get out there. Make the change. Change is good.

Clockwise

Another year older, another year wiser.
Time for Friends & Family.
Time for reflection. Time for resolve.
Time to create & appreciate.
Time to remember why.

"Short and sorrowful is our life, and there is no remedy when a
man comes to his end, and no one has been known to return from Hades.
Because we were born by mere chance, and hereafter we shall be as though
we had never been; because the breath in our nostrils is smoke,
and reason is a spark kindled by the beating of our hearts.
When it is extinguished, the body will turn to ashes, and the spirit
will dissolve like empty air. Our name will be forgotten in time and
no one will remember our works; our life will pass away like the traces
of a cloud, and be scattered like mist that is chased by the rays of
the sun and overcome by its heat. For our allotted time is the passing
of a shadow, and there is no return from our death, because it is
sealed up and no one turns back."

Take me out to the Ballgame

A repeat of last season - I think not!!! Last year the Padres got swept
by the St Louis, but this isn't the same team they faced last year.
The Cards were strong in pitching and hitting while the friars gimped
into the playoffs with a .500 record. This time around, the advantage
goes to the Padres.

Prediction - Padres win in 4.

slicked down, their new eyeglass frames and their

About a Girl

Oh so long ago – the year was 1992, The year was chock full of drama –
George Bush threw up on the Japanese PM, John Gotti was sentenced to life
in prison, Riots in LA after the Rodney King verdict, and Bill Clinton
sat poised to defeat George H.W. Bush.

Earlier in the year my hero & idol Kurt Cobain, married his crack-whore
girlfriend (Courtney Love) in Hawaii. In August, they gave birth to
their precious daughter, Francis Bean. This year FBC turned 13…

Man, I feel OLD!!!

By the way – her chin & piercing eyes look just like Kurt’s.

Space... The Final Frontier?

That is, until they digitally remaster it.

This article was released today about Star Trek (original series)
coming back to TV in conjunction withthe 40th anniversary.
They remastered the episode which will later be sold on DVD.
What is your take? Read the article and decide for yourself.

(I think it sounds awesome!!!)

Star Trek journeys to the 21st century as the Original Series
returns to broadcast syndication for the first time in 16 years
with brand-new digitally remastered episodes to celebrate its 40th
anniversary. CBS Paramount Domestic Television has officially
announced that they are releasing digitally remastered episodes
of Star Trek, with all new special effects and music, to celebrate
the groundbreaking series' 40th anniversary, according to John Nogawski,
president of CBS Paramount Domestic Television.

The Star Trek episodes will begin airing on the more than 200 stations
that own the rights to the weekend broadcast syndication window starting
September 16th. The plan is for all 79 episodes of the Original Series to be remastered,
with the first batch of episodes chosen from a list of Star Trek fans'
favorite shows. With the running order to be determined, it's unlikely
to follow the classic air-date order or production order format familiar to fans.

The first episode will be "Balance of Terror", the classic first time
the Enterprise crew engaged against the Romulans. The most noticeable
change will be redoing many of the special effects, created with
1960s technology, with 21st century computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Upgrades include:

Space ship exteriors - The Enterprise, as well as other starships,
will be replaced with state of the art CGI-created ships. The new
computer-generated Enterprise is based on the exact measurements of
the original model, which now rests in the Smithsonian Institution
in Washington, D.C.

Show opening - The Enterprise and planets seen in the main title
sequence will be redone, giving them depth and dimension for the
first time.

Galaxy shots - All the graphics of the galaxy, so frequently seen
through the viewscreen on the Enterprise's bridge, will be redone.

Exteriors - The battle scenes, planets and ships from other cultures
(notably the Romulan Bird of Prey and Klingon Battle Cruisers)
will be updated.

Background scenes - Some of the iconic, yet flat, matte paintings
used as backdrops for the strange, new worlds explored by the
Enterprise crew will get a CGI face-lift, adding atmosphere and lighting.

The refurbished episodes also feature higher quality sound for the
famous opening theme. The original score by Emmy Award-winning
composer Alexander Courage, has been re-recorded in state-of-the-art
digital stereo audio with an orchestra and a female singer belting
out the famous vocals. A digitally remastered version of
William Shatner's classic original recording of the 38-word
"Space, the final frontier..." monologue continues to open each episode.

The remastered episodes have been converted from the original film
into a High-Definition format, which gives viewers a chttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.giflearer, crisper,
more vibrant picture than before, even when viewed in standard definition.
Once stations upgrade and start broadcasting HD signals, the episodes
will be all ready for viewers to enjoy in HD. There is no confirmation
as yet if, or when, these episodes will eventually appear on DVD,
HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. No word yet either on whether the subsequent spin-offs,
most notably "Star Trek: The Next Generation", will also receive a
similar treatment.

UPDATE: Here is a link to the "Enhanced Trek":

Be sure to watch the EFFECTS ONLY EDIT at the bottom, as well
as the Side-by-Side comparrison.

Karma.

You do nice things. Nice things happen to you.
It's a simple concept. And one I believe in.

The Foo Fighters are in the midst of their acousic tour.
I was fortunate enough to see them here in San Diego when
it came through. It was a beautiful show that really showcased
Dave Grohl and the rest of the band's talent.

I did a HUGE favor for my boss Lusty. Him and Donny V. (VP of Sales)
receieved tixs for one of the 3 LA shows. Lusty can't go so
I will be taking his place. I am soooo STOKED!!!

The lunatics have taken over the asylum

As the days get warmer and tempers flare, I realize why people explode,
run people off the road, give the finger while driving, shoot at each
other, etc…

PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS. Plain and simple.

Be it the clerk at the sporting good store that can’t find anything
except 3 left shoes and no rights.Or going to Bank with 3 tellers working
the windows, 5 standing around doing “something else” and the new thing –
the greeter at the front door. "Hello, welcome to Hell’s Fargo
How can we help you today?”

“Well, if you could shit out a roll of quarters so that I don’t have
to wait in line for 15 minutes, that would be GREAT.”

No one takes pride in their job anymore either. They are just there
collecting a paycheck.Take some responsibility for the customer.

Help them out.

“I’m sorry we don’t have that in your size. How about I call another
store for you?” “Would you like another refill on your soda?” without
having to flag down a waitress.

And in the profound words of (and to paraphrase) Mr.Pink –
“The words TOO FUCKING BUSY shouldn't be in a waitress's vocabulary.
I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type.”

What's Golden

Jurassic 5 rolled into town last Thursday night and put on another great performance.
This is all in support of their new CD "FEEDBACK" (which I haven't gotten yet but heard it's great).

Built around the nucleus of rhymers Marc7, Chali 2na, Akil and Soup, as well as the party-starting turntable-ism
of DJ Nu-Mark, Jurassic 5 hit the path not taken by delivering tongue-twisting rhymes and wheels-of-steel dexterity
while skipping the bling, ho's and drama. If you have never seen them, be sure to catch them the next time around.

I bet you look good on the Dance Floor

Between the Beach Party Saturday day, the OBEY event on Saturday night
and the Foo Fighters show on Monday, it was the beginning of a busy couple
of weeks. Today is the double threat of Preview Night (and the official
start of) Comic Con, as well as Opening Day at the Del Mar Race Track.

As I stated last year, I have been attending since 1986 and registered
as a Pro since 1994. For anyone that hasn’t had the opportunity to attend,
it has really become more of a phenomenon as opposed to “just comics” –
it now encompasses comics, movies, video games, tv & pop culture in general.
I will shoot a lot of photos (as usual). I am attending tonight with Jimbo,
and I am supposed to meet up with Rare & Ronzi at the Con.

This years events and panels include a Battlestar Galactica panel,
a special on Bruce Timm (master animator and creator of Batman TAS,
Superman TAS, and both Justice League cartoons), a screening of
The Ultimates 2 cartoon, Kevin Smith talking about Clerks 2 and even
an ultra-rare appearance by Samuel L. “Bad Mother Fucker” Jackson.

Also on Saturday, SONY Online is having a Block Party at the studio.
It’s free and everyone is invited. http://www.station.sony.com/en/blockparty.jsp

On the other hand, I haven’t been to an opening day at the track in a long time.
It’s a scene… but a fun scene nonetheless. Especially fun if you are at the Turf Club,
sipping Mojitos. I am hitting the track on Sunday though.

Next week brings Jurassic 5, the Violent Femmes at 4 o’clock Friday @ the track,
the SOE Company Party, and Chixdiggit! In Long Beach.

By the way - I have been listening heavily to the Arctic Monkeys. Check 'um out!!!

Everlong

Last night was the Foo Fighters Acoustic show. F’ING AMAZING!!!
I had the best time as well.Going to a show with people that really
appreciate music makes the event so much better.I am still hopefully
going to see them again in LA with Donny V. from SOE. Drinks & dinner
before the show. Just a great time. Pictures and video (yes, video!!)
on the way soon.

Over the weekend was the OBEY / Shepard Fairy book signing and art
showing at Ducky Waddles in Encinitas. I got my signed copy of
Supply & Demand as well as a ton of photos.

Book Samples

"Supply and Demand is the book that finally does justice to
Shepard Fairey's entire body of work, a massive retrospective
covering 17 Years of this groundbreaking artist's prodigious output.
Through the lens of esteemed writers and critics such as Carlo McCormick,
Steven Heller and Roger Gastman, Fairey's work is seen for all its
depth and placed in context as art, design, social experiment and
"getting over". This massive book pulls no punches and all areas
of the enigmatic artist's work, travels and travails are illuminated;
from exhibitions, posters, flyers, silkscreens and stickers to high
altitude pursuits, citations and police beatings, it's all documented
in a museum quality layout and binding. The evidence is in, and it's
clear that Shepard Fairey is not one to rest on his laurels, the work
must go on. For both long time fans wanting the complete collection
and those just curious to know what this OBEY business is all about
Supply and Demand is the answer."

Star Wars in pop references

"I think George Lucas is going to sue somebody"

ILL Communication

This morning the Emmy Nominations were handed out, and as usual,
the best shows on TV got snubbed. Of course I am referring to
Battlestar Galactica & Rescue Me. Actually, I take that back,
Dennis “No Cure for Cancer” Leary got a nod for the lead in RM.
Even My Name is Earl got left out. Sure it’s the last year for
The West Wing (which I watch) but come on. Their year was soft.
The Sopranos… PLEASE!! The finale blew. It just goes to show
that TV watches out for their own (the big networks that is)
while the little guys (WB, FX) get the finger.

I’m Beginning to See the Light

Another awesome weekend in San Diego. Even though I didn’t have a BIG weekend,
it was still a blast and a great release (from the pressure in my head).

Friday night was supposed to kick-off a fun weekend with a “getting to know you” drink / date
with F-bomb, the girl I met at the Wolfmother show. Unfortunately
I experienced something new – the stand-up. Not a full on blow off but the plans
fell through and I didn’t hear from her until early Saturday morning. She said
one of her friends had an emergency and she went to help. She asked to reschedule…

Then we were supposed to go out for Chazz’s Birthday but he got crushed in
the face at his football game and didn’t want to go out looking like Mushmouth
from the Cosby Kids. I figure it’s his bday, he doesn’t have to go out if he
doesn’t want to. I figure we’ll make up for it the next weekend (being the
weekend of the 4th of July).

Even still, I didn’t want to sit home on a Saturday night. I had been
contacted through MySpace by a girl I met, to come down to where she works
an grab a drink (she’s a bartender). This actually goes back a few months ago
to talking to a couple of cute SD girls. Here I met Jo-Jo. Chatted her up a
couple of time but it never really went anywhere so I left it alone.
Well, she initiated the contact this time. She is really nice & cute.
We have exchanged digits so we’ll see what happens there.

Then Sunday I went to the Padres game with Shazz. Had an awesome time
in the sun, watching the wheels come off in what was a good game until the
8th inning. The best part of the day is the seat on the other side of me…
It became occupied with a very cute girl. The funny thing is I am sitting
there with Shazz so it could look like we are together. We both waited to
see if a guy was showing up to sit with the lovely girl, but it did not happen.

As we were sitting there, I smiled, she smiled… the cards were being laid.
I asked Shazz if she had to go to the bathroom (hint, hint) and she said
“NO” with a big shit-eating grin on her face. She said she wanted to make
me sweat. Lucky for me there was an opening – a foul ball came right at us,
without me looking, I reached may hand out and almost caught it. It bounced
at Shazz’s feet but she was too slow to grab it, while some guy lept over
his wife to get it. I started the conversation with “M” by asking “If the
ball was going to hit me in the face, would you have told me?”. She laughed
and said “of course”.

She was awesome and we talked the rest of the game. She recently moved here
for her job with HP. She loves watching live sports. She was ballsy enough
to come to a pads game alone. As we left, I gave her a card and said if she
wanted someone to show her around to give me a call. She gave me that great
smile and said sure.

Shazz later told me she was impressed, that I handled myself quite well in
the face of a hard situation. I will take that as a compliment.

Things are DEFINITELY looking up…

Press Play

I started my new design life at SOE on Monday. Being here since April
has made the transition to full time easy, considering I have been here
full time since I began my tenure.

The people here are great and a lot of fun… sometimes TOO MUCH!
It is hard to concentrate with people yelling, talking to you, needing
stuff from you. Imagine 20 needy children all wanting you attention at once.
That is the way it feels sometimes. That is why Jen (my boss) is great.
She prioritizes my work load and makes it way easier for me.

I have been trying to dig myself out of my debt hole I have myself in.
I figure by the end of the year, I should be good. The problem is, the
summer ALWAYS brings a plethora of things to do – concerts, movies,
dinners, shopping, outings, picnics, street fairs, padres games,
the ponies, and new CDs and DVDs, just to name a few.

I recently bought a PRO Flickr account to host all the pictures
I have been taking.Be sure to check it out:

Joker and the Thief

So much to catch up on… YIKES!!!

Well, good news first – I got my offer from SONY Online (finally).
It seemed to take forever, but now I can just be happy.

Don’t get me wrong, working hourly is great (and the OT is awesome)
but I love the security of a FT job with all the benefits. And let me
tell you, the SOE ones aren’t too shabby. Went over to Apertivo to
celebrate with a few of the new people tonight.

Last night was a blast as well. I went to see Wolfmother and they
rocked my socks off! You may ask yourself, “Who the hell is Wolfmother??!”.
If you have seen the latest i-tunes commercial then you have heard them.
They sound like Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Soundgarden all mashed together.
The show was at ‘Canes (small and intimate) and was over by 11pm.
Oh, and I got some digits…

I need to still post pictures from the Labor Day blast, which by the way,
really was a lot of FUN! Really looking forward to the Fourth of July
and another courtyard bash.

Just having fun – that is the name of the game.
