BLACKOUT!

The date September 8th will become synonymous with BLACKOUT here in San Diego, parts of Orange
County and Mexico. We had a MAJOR one here that kept us in the dark until around 10pm.

It was caused by an AZ power worker on the border of California and Arizona, that didn't follow procedure
on a routine maintenance service. It sounds like that the damage could have been reduced, but instead
was amplified to the point that we had.

Here at work, things went dark around 3:40pm. The computers shut off. We walked around the building
with just the safety lights and window light to guide us. By 4pm Clairemont Mesa Boulavard was becoming
a parking lot. It took what is regularly a two minute drive to the 163, 20 minutes to get there. Once on
the freeway tho, getting home was a breeze. Even maneuvering through North Park was simple.

I had an emergency kit set-up at home with a flashlight, candles and a portable radio. We have a gas stove
so dinner would be no problem either. I got home, got the house situated for the night and headed out
to see how others and business' were fairing. North Park was quiet. We stopped by the BlueFoot and had a
$3 beer that they were trying to get rid of (and we obliged). That was supposed to be the NFL kickoff night on
TV but not for San Diego. Oh well. It's not like it was a Charger game. The best was guy outside the bar
selling candles, and making a KILLING!

Once home, I cooked Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, we drank beer and watched a movie on T-Dub's laptop.
We didn't really have to rough it at all. Much more of an inconvenience than anything else.
Especially since it was warm and we rely on the ceiling fan. Had a little trouble sleeping but that
was really super minor in the big scheme of things.
