Between the Beach Party Saturday day, the OBEY event on Saturday night
and the Foo Fighters show on Monday, it was the beginning of a busy couple
of weeks. Today is the double threat of Preview Night (and the official
start of) Comic Con, as well as Opening Day at the Del Mar Race Track.
As I stated last year, I have been attending since 1986 and registered
as a Pro since 1994. For anyone that hasn’t had the opportunity to attend,
it has really become more of a phenomenon as opposed to “just comics” –
it now encompasses comics, movies, video games, tv & pop culture in general.
I will shoot a lot of photos (as usual). I am attending tonight with Jimbo,
and I am supposed to meet up with Rare & Ronzi at the Con.
This years events and panels include a Battlestar Galactica panel,
a special on Bruce Timm (master animator and creator of Batman TAS,
Superman TAS, and both Justice League cartoons), a screening of
The Ultimates 2 cartoon, Kevin Smith talking about Clerks 2 and even
an ultra-rare appearance by Samuel L. “Bad Mother Fucker” Jackson.
Also on Saturday, SONY Online is having a Block Party at the studio.
It’s free and everyone is invited. http://www.station.sony.com/en/blockparty.jsp
On the other hand, I haven’t been to an opening day at the track in a long time.
It’s a scene… but a fun scene nonetheless. Especially fun if you are at the Turf Club,
sipping Mojitos. I am hitting the track on Sunday though.
Next week brings Jurassic 5, the Violent Femmes at 4 o’clock Friday @ the track,
the SOE Company Party, and Chixdiggit! In Long Beach.
By the way - I have been listening heavily to the Arctic Monkeys. Check 'um out!!!

In case ANYONE doesn't think the Foo Fighters are the BEST live band
around, check out this concert: Live from Hype Park. AWESOME!!!
"85,000 screaming fans jammed into London's Hyde Park on
June 17, 2006 to see Foo Fighters play the largest show of
their 11-year history. Now you can be there too as the four-time
Grammy winners rip through a virtual live greatest hits set including
"Best of You", "Learn to Fly", "Monkeywrench", "Times Like These"
and "Everlong" - plus guest appearances from legendary friends:
Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor join the band for a cover of their
"Tie Your Mother Down" featuring Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins
on vocals, while Lemmy of Motorhead provides guest vocals on
"Shake Your Blood." Check out the Foo Fighters now-historic Hyde Park show!"

"Supply and Demand is the book that finally does justice to
Shepard Fairey's entire body of work, a massive retrospective
covering 17 Years of this groundbreaking artist's prodigious output.
Through the lens of esteemed writers and critics such as Carlo McCormick,
Steven Heller and Roger Gastman, Fairey's work is seen for all its
depth and placed in context as art, design, social experiment and
"getting over". This massive book pulls no punches and all areas
of the enigmatic artist's work, travels and travails are illuminated;
from exhibitions, posters, flyers, silkscreens and stickers to high
altitude pursuits, citations and police beatings, it's all documented
in a museum quality layout and binding. The evidence is in, and it's
clear that Shepard Fairey is not one to rest on his laurels, the work
must go on. For both long time fans wanting the complete collection
and those just curious to know what this OBEY business is all about
Supply and Demand is the answer."

This morning the Emmy Nominations were handed out, and as usual,
the best shows on TV got snubbed. Of course I am referring to
Battlestar Galactica & Rescue Me. Actually, I take that back,
Dennis “No Cure for Cancer” Leary got a nod for the lead in RM.
Even My Name is Earl got left out. Sure it’s the last year for
The West Wing (which I watch) but come on. Their year was soft.
The Sopranos… PLEASE!! The finale blew. It just goes to show
that TV watches out for their own (the big networks that is)
while the little guys (WB, FX) get the finger.
