Times Like These

WOW!!!! What a month (and it seems like longer). Where to start…

As far as the Y Conference, I had a great time. I came back feeling
creative and rejuvenated.I got to meet a lot of cool people
(and cute girls “wink, wink – call me”). The after-party at the
Airport Lounge was great. If you haven’t checked it out, be sure to.
So many good-looking people, it was something to behold. On my list
of places to go out to.

In my neighborhood, there was a bar known to the locals as
The WolfsHead Bar. It was a notoriously gay bar (I heard there were
glory-holes and all). It was recently purchased by new owners which
converted the dingy, scary bar into a very cool place to hang out.
They have a full bar, lounge area, flat panel tv’s, 2 pool tables
and an outdoor patio which you can smoke & drink on until closing time.
Finally a great local bar within walking (err, correction – stumbling
distance) from my house.

I was back at the swing of things at work. Even being away for a day
seems to put you behind. I then was summoned away for Jury Duty for
a day. I didn’t get on a case but the experience (my 3rd time doing this)
is fun. You mean I am getting paid and I am away from the office. Right on.
I read, listened to music, sketched on some projects and chatted up
2 pretty girls.

Unfortunately, that was the beginning of a crappy weekend.
Long story short, I am no longer working for VV Creative. It was within
my 90 days probationary period and they didn’t need to give an excuse
because of CA laws, but they said it was “money related”. I had heard
through the grapevine they had other concerns about me. I am just
chalking it up to not being a good fit for neither of us.
As long as my ex-boss doesn’t continue to badmouth me in the
design community, I will be okay.

During my employment I had been keeping up with my freelance projects
and job hunting. The new contacts I had recently made the ramp-up of
my job search easier. I had a few cover letters out and had heard from
a couple of friends about open positions. One of them was from my friend
Big Rig Buttcakes (aka Big Bri), which I got a job for with Sony Online
(see EverQuest) as their video guy.

They had recently fired their Art Director and were looking for a
Sr. Designer to come in and help out, possibly leading to a FT gig.
I still know a couple of people there as well. I have been freelancing
for 2 weeks now and loving it. They are in high gear getting ready for
E3 so my help is desperately needed. Along with that, some of their
stuff looking like ass and under-designed (no effort put in).
Not to toot my own horn, but some of my stuff is really looking good.

In the girls department, I had put the mojo on hold until I could get
a handle on my “spinning out of control” life as far as my job.
I met a cute redhead from OK in pilates class. We chatted a couple
of weeks in a row and exchanged digits last night.
I think she will be a fun one.
